The Freya Apartments is a continuation of our work on affordable housing and development, and is a partnership with Hamilton Urban Partners.  The project is located in Crown Heights, a part of Seattle oriented toward driving and dominated by large box stores and surface parking lots, though recently classified as a pedestrian zone and targeted for increased density.

Our design embraces that future by holding tight to the street while stepping in at grade to create a more generous sidewalk.  Small retail spaces provide options for independent businesses and are backed by courtyards that bring daylighting to the center of the site.

The apartments are purposefully small and simple, and are supported by generous common areas on each level as well as a large programmed lobby and patio at grade.  This model of congregate housing will be a living example of our belief that affordability and community can, and should, be mutual goals.  The building is currently under construction with expected completion Fall 2020.  It will be operated by Open Door.
