The most ambitious of all of the Urban Infillers projects to date, the West Seattle development takes a challenging one acre plot with very steep topography and creates a new pocket neighborhood with five new single family homes. A tall shoring wall along the uphill portion of the site is provided to stabilize the land and protect the homes from any future movement of the uphill properties. The soil that is removed from the shoring operation is moved to the downhill sites where it is used to level out the ground around those homes. Open spaces are grouped around the areas required for driveway access to the homes to create the impression of a common forecourt for all of the homes. The garages in this area are all provided with green roofs, which reinforce the open space concept while providing useful patios adjacent to the living areas of each house.
